چکیده

• Broomcorn millet was grown under controlled condition. H/D fractionation during seeds n -alkanes and miliacin synthesis examined. Leaf water δ 2 H value is the primary driver of lipid values. Relative humidity could explain subtle differences in ε bio between -alkanes. Compound specific hydrogen isotopic analyses have potential to reveal biosynthetic pathways biomarkers reconstruct effects stress a plant, or an ecosystem. Although C4 graminoids are great geological interest some world's leading crops, there few experimental studies their biomarker responses hydrological conditions. Here, we study graminoid, broomcorn millet, compare changes environmental conditions on distributions -alkane homologues pentacyclic triterpene, miliacin, which for millet; both were measured graminoid. plants propagated hydroponic solutions with four different values each two growth chambers, differing relative (58 74%). Analyses compounds (miliacin -alkanes) extracted from transpiring non-transpiring organs allowed us quantify apparent (lipids vs. source plant) leaf water) fractionations syntheses. Miliacin linearly related values, permitting credible be calculated (average −149.5‰ ± 11) (−118‰ 5). These within range published respective pathways, although H-enrichment compared remains unexplained. Whereas 16% decrease had no significant impact -C 25 27 alkanes, it led ~25‰ 31 33 alkanes. This consequence contribution more depleted pools atoms cytoplasmic (compared chloroplastic pools) -alkyl elongation process. finding suggests that influences organic may discretely inferred by examining synthesized distinct sources cells. provides clues plant derived but also highlights issues seed lipids require further research.

Molecular Basis of the Waxy Endosperm Starch Phenotype in Broomcorn Millet (Panicum miliaceum L.)

Waxy varieties of the tetraploid cereal broomcorn millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) have endosperm starch granules lacking detectable amylose. This study investigated the basis of this phenotype using molecular and biochemical methods. Iodine staining of starch granules in 72 plants from 38 landrace accessions found 58 nonwaxy and 14 waxy phenotype plants. All waxy types were in plants from Chinese...

Genetic diversity and phylogeography of broomcorn millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) across Eurasia

Broomcorn millet (Panicum miliaceum L.) is one of the world's oldest cultivated cereals, with several lines of recent evidence indicating that it was grown in northern China from at least 10,000 cal bp. Additionally, a cluster of archaeobotanical records of P. miliaceum dated to at least 7000 cal bp exists in eastern Europe. These two centres of early records could either represent independent ...

Reticulate evolution in Panicum (Poaceae): the origin of tetraploid broomcorn millet, P. miliaceum

Panicum miliaceum (broomcorn millet) is a tetraploid cereal, which was among the first domesticated crops, but is now a minor crop despite its high water use efficiency. The ancestors of this species have not been determined; we aimed to identify likely candidates within the genus, where phylogenies are poorly resolved. Nuclear and chloroplast DNA sequences from P. miliaceum and a range of dipl...

Evaluation of three hundred and sixty four proso millet germplasm accessions were done during rabi, 2008-2009 at Department of Millets, Centre for Plant Breeding and Genetics, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore to study genetic variability, diversity, correlation and path analysis of yield and its components. High variability observed for most of the characters indicated the scope o...
